Stadium Minor League History:
South Atlantic League 1988-1994
Current Status:
Razed after the 1994 season. Lake
Olmstead Stadium now stands in its place.
What's Good: Hmmm. Not a whole lot! Most of the seats were pretty close to the field, I guess.
What's Not So Good: The place was a dump. Nothing more than a few rows of second-hand box seats circling the infield, a rickety pressbox, and warped, splintery bleachers taken from an old drag strip. The dugouts were barely more than bunkers covered in tarpaper, and during games, players would often sit on top of them rather than in them. The place was thrown together in the late 1980s in order to attract a South Atlantic League franchise to Augusta, which hadn't had pro ball in over two decades. I'm glad Augusta got the team, but if ever a ballpark needed replacing, this was it.
