The Good: This is a funky old ballpark. While the physical structure of the place itself is nothing special (metal stands, no real roof), the ballpark is still interesting. The box seats are real box seats, with metal railings between them, and the stands are very close to the field. Concession stands offer a little more than the typical fare (like burritos), and prices were very reasonable. The staff was particularly friendly, and there wasn't anyone running around checking seats. Although the stadium architecture didn't have the significance or charm of many of the other ballparks of this vintage, it was nonetheless a laid-back, fun place to see a game.

The Not So Good: Given how hot it can get down in Midland, the lack of a roof or any significant source of shade is a drawback (a very narrow little roof covers the last couple of rows on the third base side, but there's nothing behind the plate or down the first base side). The team, like so many others, is also hoping for a new stadium. Current plans would see the new ballpark opening in 2002. |
